Spring Pipes: Organ Recital 2026

We're delighted to invite you to a special lunchtime organ recital at Yirranma Place, as our Grand Heritage organ welcomes the season of renewal.

As the city stirs awake and blossoms return, let the organ's voice mirror the season - bright, buoyant, and full of new life. Join us for Spring Pipes: Organ Recital 2026, featuring Robert Fox, our resident organist, as he brings the freshness of spring alive through the majestic pipes of Yirranma Place.

The programme will move from the Baroque brilliance of JS Bach to the lilting charm of Johann Strauss, the pastoral grace of Thomas Arne and the dance rhythms of Tylman Susato - with a film score or two adding a touch of the unexpected!

The Two Good Co Cafe will be open before and after the recital, offering a selection of food and drinks to dine in or take away.

Organist

Robert Fox

Robert was first associated with this instrument when he used it for his HSC Music performance exam. The church retained him as one of its organists more or less continuously until its closure in 2010.

Robert was the Director of Performing Arts at Shore School in North Sydney for 25 years, and continues as the School Organist, a post which he has held since 1979. He is a former President of the Organ Music Society of Sydney.

He has given recitals in Sydney’s major venues and has played some of the world’s most famous instruments including those in Westminster Abbey, St Paul’s Cathedral London, and King’s College in Cambridge.

Robert was one of the first theatre managers to be appointed to the Sydney Opera House prior to its opening in 1973, and went on to carry out a similar role at the opening of the “new” Theatre Royal in 1976.

He is the President of the Roxy Theatre Action Group, formed to lobby the NSW government to acquire and restore Parramatta’s historic Roxy Theatre.

Robert is the Founder/Director of the International Boys’ Summer School, established 20 years ago to support and encourage young male dancers from Australia and beyond

Venue

Yirranma Place is a philanthropic precinct with social purpose at its heart.

“Yirranma” is translated from Gadigal to “many-create”. This indicates the purpose of the precinct - a place where people come together to create and connect in the Darlinghurst neighbourhood. Yirranma Place is a space where for-purpose organisations, social enterprises, and people working for social change can collaborate; and for the local community to enjoy, from picking up a coffee to browsing displays, or attending an event.
